How to Make a Dr Seuss Dessert Table

Mr S and I both have birthdays in September but for some reason we have never celebrated with a joint birthday party.

This year we wanted to celebrate twice, once with our friends for a par-tay, then later in the month with family. For the friends party we decided on a fun theme that I had been wanting to do forever, Dr Seuss!

I love Dr Seuss! I read the books as a child, my favourite book was Green Eggs and Ham, my favourite part was always when Sam I Am realises he really does like green eggs and ham "Say! I do like green eggs and ham! I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!"

Usually dessert tables take a lot out of me, so much work goes into them, it's crazy! So this time I decided to keep it minimal and I think it worked out great!

I had cake, cupcakes, popcorn, vodka jelly shots, candy and cake pops. I also had a savouries table which had green devilled eggs, sausage rolls, pizza, chips, dip and breads. It was plenty of food which was is always good to serve when you know people will be drinking!

For the cake I made the bottom tier a funky stripey cake with red velvet and vanilla cakes stacked on top of each other. The top tier is a sneaky display cake which is great to use if you don't feel like eating a two tier cake but you want that look.

I made white chocolate cupcakes with light blue cream cheese icing which I loved in contrast with the stripy red and white cupcakes cases.

I decided to try out vodka jelly shots for the very first time and found that they actually tasted dangerously good!

I made mine with half a packet of blueberry and half a packet of lemonade to get the light blue colour, then added 1 1/4 cups of boiling water to it, once the mixture cooled down slightly I added 3/4 cup of vodka and poured them into little plastic shot glasses and refrigerated them over night.

If you're having a Dr Seuss party you have to have green eggs! They are so simple to make, just hard boil your eggs, colour the yolk mixture bright green and pipe into the egg whites.
