Birthdays are kind of a big deal in our family.
Usually planning starts a few months in advance, in my nieces case, it starts a year in advance. As in, at her party the year before she's getting ideas for next years!
This year I came to Cleo with a bunch of ideas and asked what she was into to get some ideas for party themes and cake ideas.
Turns out her interests are a bit of a mixed bag. She likes My Little Pony, Dr Who, Hunger Games, The Avengers and the colour orange.
She reminds me so much of me when I was her age. I once went through a phase of loving the colour lime green. I used to demand all my Monopoly money be given to me in green $20 notes. Weirdo.
This year Cleo had the grand idea to just go with her favourite colour for the theme and planned some fun games to play with her friends.
The girls enjoyed a delicious orange themed lunch which my mum and sister organised (we're a pretty creative family!)
On the menu was home made bread buns filled with camembert cheese, carrot dip, orange coloured strawberries and cream cupcakes, carrot sticks, jelly in orange segments, chips, orange M&Ms and My Little Pony cookies and lollies. Orange-licious!
Seeing as Cleo is very arty and takes after her aunty in the baking interest, I organised for Cleo and her friends to decorate the cake themselves!
I made a white and orange checkered vanilla cake, covered it in white fondant then took some coloured fondant, cutters and candies with me for the girls to decorate with.
The finished result was amazing! You should have seen their fantastic talent in action. Some made fondant faces of the girls at the party, some made flowers, one even made the dog from Adventure Time!
My favourite parts were where there was a scene set up. One of the scenes was Dr Who in gummy bear form...doing whatever Dr Who does. Another scene featured gummy bears with their decapitated heads elsewhere!
The party ended with a few Wii games before the older members of the family turned up for a family birthday dinner celebration.
All in all it was a lovely party, Cleo did so well coming up with this years theme. I wonder what she has planned for next year!
